Ten awesome sights to see on a post-camp road trip

June 2, 2017

Excited for camp? We bet! It might seem like a long way off now, but have you thought about what you’re going to do when your camp stay comes to an end? You could sit on a plane moping and missing your new friends – or, you COULD be off on an epic road trip, making even more mates! Sound good?

There’s so much of the States to see, it’s hard to know where to start. Which is why we’ve rounded up our top ten sights to see, mixing the must-sees with some off the beaten track gems something our friends over at TrekAmerica are all about.

The Grand Canyon

Warning: Severe cases of jaw dropping will likely occur, and those exposed via your Instagram might send reports of turning green. A total bucket list sight, and for a real once-in-a-lifetime experience, you could even take a helicopter ride across this vast expanse.

Hollywood Boulevard

Fancy a bit of celeb spotting? Hello Hollywood! Even if you don’t see them IRL, you’ll find over 2,600 big names with the famous stars along the Walk of Fame. Make sure you take a snap of the iconic Hollywood sign too!

Seligman, Arizona

It’s not all about the big ticket sights – if you want the real road trip experience, en route stop-offs provide a slice of classic Americana. The birthplace of historic Route 66, Seligman is full of quirky décor and character, and it’s the perfect place to grab the best super-thick diner shake around.

Mount Rushmore

Face off with American presidential greats Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. At around 60ft high, you’ll see the faces of these well-known presidents immortalised in carved stone.

Niagara Falls

Sitting pretty on the border between the US and Canada, these thundering falls are a true spectacle, equally amazing when viewed from either side. Jump aboard the Maid of the Mist cruise to get up close – and soaked!

Salvation Mountain

The bright colours of Salvation Mountain are a treat for the eyes (and the camera lens). This visionary site is covered in artwork made from adobe (mud brick), straw and lead-free paint, creating an unusual, striking and beautiful display.

The Golden Gate Bridge

Check out the world’s most famous suspension bridge! At a mile long, you’ll rack up the steps on your Fitbit AND see the amazing views of the San Francisco skyline.

Miami Beach

The beautiful people of Miami flock to the sandy shores of South Beach…and you could be joining them! Grab a towel, park up on a sun lounger and take some well-deserved R&R on your jam-packed road trip adventure.

Yosemite National Park

One of the country’s best-loved national parks, and for good reason. Yosemite is full of views, towering sequoia trees and picture-perfect waterfalls. Take a hike to get a view of the park from up high, or just soak up the natural beauty on a leisurely stroll. Keep your eyes peeled for bears!

Washington Monument

The Washington Monument Commemorates famous former president George Washington, as it stretches above the capital city of the USA. Casting a sundial-like shadow across the National Mall, it offers amazing views, both up close and from afar.
